2010 Volleyball Tournament

The Crossroads Volleyball Tournament is part of Crossroads Ministry’s strategy to build “world Christians.” Our desire is to mobilize college-age students to reach the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ and see His church established in every nation.

With this in mind, the tournament has a two-fold purpose:

1.To raise money for world missions, the proceeds helping to send students on local and international short- term mission trips.

2.The event is meant to be active in evangelism; as volleyball teams are organized, students will try to involve as many non-Christian friends as possible in order to build relationships for the sake of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.

This tournament is a specially designed marathon in which teams of 6 to 10 people play in a 5-hour long tournament on Saturday, April 17. Participants have the option of joining a Competitive or Non-Competitive Team. The event will begin at 10 AM at the Sunset Recreation Center on the UCLA campus. Prior to the event, participants must ask people to sponsor them with flat donations, as each player must raise at least $100 in order to enter the tournament. Prizes will be given to the tournament’s winning teams (Competitive and Non-Competitive).

WAYS TO GET INVOLVED

As a Team Captain: Pick up a Captain’s Packet at the Crossroads Connection. Organize a co-ed team consisting of 6-10 people. There must be at least two girls on the court at all times, so plan accordingly.  If you have any questions, please contact Andrew Gutierrez at 818.909.5579 or email him at agutierrez@gracechurch.org.

As a Team Player: Raise a minimum of $100 as an individual to enter into the

tournament. You can do this by getting as many people as possible to sponsor you

(e.g., parents, friends, neighbors, employers, co-workers, local businesses, etc.). Clearly explain the purpose of the tournament to sponsors and have them make all checks payable to Grace Community Church. Their contributions are tax-deductible. Keep track of all donations on your sponsor form and report your fundraising progress to your Team Captain. Sponsor sheets will be available through your team captains to aid in your record-keeping. Turn in your money as you collect it – do not turn in all of your money at the last minute. Invite friends and co-workers to be a part of your team or to come and watch the tournament.

As a Volunteer: Check with your Shepherd to see how your Bible Study is helping out at the tournament.

As a Referee: If you would like to be a referee, please email us at crossroads@gracechurch.org
