APPROACHING DAMASCUS: WHERE THE GOSPEL CHANGES
EVERYTHING
Blogs, blogs, and
more blogs. The word is short for “weblog.” These internet morsels are bite
size musings with an opportunity for others to comment. More show up in the
“blogosphere” everyday.
I have been hesitant
to begin a blog for a lot of reasons. First, most blogs are masquerades. They
make people look like something they’re not. Bloggers pose as theologians,
philosophers, statesmen for causes, even spokesmen for Christianity when they
are little more than guys with some computer savvy and a strong opinion.
Second, it is
impossible to keep up with blogs. Since most serious bloggers post something
everyday (some every hour!), I think too many people spend too much time
chasing the latest post. I have talked to people who read blogs with greater
regularity than they read their Bibles.
Third, the comments.
These are responses at the end of a post that allow people to interact with the
blog posting. Some of these are really good. Others can easily become
loudspeakers for gossip, displays of ungodliness, and expressions of pride.
So, with these
hesitations (really criticisms), I am cautiously beginning a
blog-that’s-not-really-a-blog blog. After five years of a weekly (well, almost)
post I called Rix Mix (I know, it’s been off line for a year…), I am wading
into some uncomfortable water, a new approach. Rix Mix served its time and will
receive a proper burial somewhere in my cluttered office. I will begin posting
some almost-weekly thoughts with a new name…
Approaching
Damascus.
Why that name?
Because on the road to Damascus, in Acts 9, Saul was converted. The Apostle
Paul met the living Savior and everything changed.
His life was
intercepted.
His perspective was
reversed.
His eyes were opened.
His passion was
redirected.
His worldview
changed.
His soul was
converted.
His mission was
clear.
Paul’s approaching
Damascus is a rallying point. It symbolizes for me a place where the gospel
of Jesus Christ changes everything. So I want to use this
blog-that’s-not-a-blog blog as a simple way of communicating to our Crossoroads
family some things that are important to me as I watch Jesus Christ change
everything in our ministry and in my own life. I hope that it will be an
extension of my pastoral care over the flock I love here at Grace Community
Church.
If you want to
receive an email when there is a new post, you can sign up for it here
on the Crossroads website.
I hope we can
approach Damascus together…
